Medical Students Social Prescribing Conference

The Medical Students Social Prescribing Network would like to personally invite you to the next Social Prescribing Conference being held in London on Sunday 10th March.

National Social Prescribing Conference for Students and Junior Doctors (2nd Edition)

Equipping and inspiring tomorrow’s doctors to deliver the NHS Long Term Plan

Sunday March 10th, 2019

Venue: The Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole St, Marylebone, London W1G 0AE

Following last year’s success, there has been a growing movement across the UK medical schools to position social prescribing and personalised care as a cornerstone for creating good health and wellbeing.

This unmissable opportunity in the heart of London brings together students from all over the UK to continue the conversation, explore the benefits of social prescribing and plan how to spread social prescribing. This is an exciting time for social prescribing. The Government’s Loneliness Strategy released last year stated that it anticipated that there will be a link worker in very GP practice by 2023. The NHS Long Term Plan has just been released which clarifies the NHS commitment to social prescribing and states that the NHS will recruit 1000 link workers this year with the aim of 900k people supported by social prescribing by 2023.

This year’s edition will focus on the NHS Long Term Plan, with an emphasis on prevention, social determinants of health and engaging the future generation of doctors in delivering high quality care for all.

Abstract Submissions: Deadline 20th February

Abstracts should be no more than 300 words and follow the following structure: Background/Aim; Methods; Results /Discussion; Conclusion. Abstracts relevant to social prescribing, lifestyle medicine, social determinants of health, and prevention are welcome. For the purposes of this national meeting, we will only consider a limited number of abstracts for short oral presentations.

Certificates and prizes will be awarded for the best presentations.

WHAT IS TSCIPP?

TSCIPP stands for 'Trauma Science and Care of the Injured Patient Programme'. It's a new 4 year SSC developed by the Centre for Trauma Sciences that offers a unique opportunity for medical students to gain both clinical and research experience from some of the best trauma staff in the country.

As a 4 year programme, students who join get to stay on the programme until the end of their time at medical school, allowing them to fully develop their interest and skills in Trauma medicine.

The overall aims of the programme are:

  • To provide students with education beyond Advanced Trauma Life Support through exclusive access to the Major Trauma Centre team and clinical research unit.

  • To provide students with the unique opportunity to explore holistic patient care from hospital admission to long term follow-up in the community.

  • To provide students with the tools and environment needed to appreciate, understand and contribute to the research underpinning Trauma Science and the public health approach to Trauma Care.

  • To enhance employability through the development of a portfolio demonstrating skills in leadership, mentorship, education, reflective practice, interpersonal skills and team work.

IT Services would like to invite you to provide feedback on the audio visual (AV) facilities provided in teaching spaces: Garrod Building, Room 2.48 2-3pm, Wed 27 February 2019. During the workshop we will revisit the standard developed in 2015 and ask you for feedback on what works well or not so well. The room has a capacity of about 30 people. Please could people confirm their attendance via e-mail to William Mordaunt w.mordaunt@qmul.ac.uk so he can arrange some refreshments.
