On Saturday 6th October Manchester University Medics Paediatrics Society (MUMPS) will be shining a spotlight on paediatric rare diseases at their National Paediatric Conference #MUMPS2018.
Why focus on rare diseases?
It is estimated that 75% of rare diseases affect children and sadly 30% of those will die before their fifth birthday. With new research and treatments the outlook for rare diseases doesn't have to be as bleak as it once was. However lots of children wait years for an accurate diagnosis which might come too late in their illness.
There is something for every future paediatrician:
· Talks on metabolic disorders, ataxia and inflammatory diseases
· Learn about a career in Paediatrics and attend a workshop on neonatal resuscitation
· Patient perspectives from a comedian and an illustrator
