Brain Training Courses

On Saturday, 8th December 2018 we are holding three seminars in London aimed at helping people absorb and process information more effectively. The areas we cover may be of particular interest to students and staff. If you are interested in attending please visit our website www.oxfordmind.co.uk/London or email us at info@oxfordmind.co.uk for more information.

The seminars are: -

    Master Your Memory
    Intelligent Speed Reading
    Introduction to Mind Maps

Master Your Memory (10.00am-12.30pm)

We cover the following areas, with an emphasis on practical exercises to help you get to grips with the various principles of effective memory: -

  • An overview of how memory works and what people are capable of achieving with training;

  • Identifying your current strengths and weaknesses and outlining why memory works differently in different situations;

  • The importance of association: linking new items to already established ideas in your brain;

  • Why using all of your brains skills is important and how to develop these skills;

  • Memory systems: (mnemonics and link systems, for example) to help you store and recall information effectively;

  • Taking advantage of particular memory principles: the primacy and recency effects / the 7 plus or minus 2 rule / chunking / applying meaning and organisation to memory tasks;

  • The process of forgetting and how to combat it by reviewing what you know;

  • Particular uses of memory: focusing on particular strategies appropriate to your subject area.

Intelligent Speed Reading (1.00pm-3.30pm)

An intensive course that will give you a specific set of techniques to help you read anything you want at approximately 1,000 words per minute with confidence and comprehension. In addition, we will outline various reading management strategies that will help you read academic material more effectively, enabling you to concentrate on what is important and eliminate what is irrelevant.

Introduction to Mind Maps (4.00pm-6.00pm)

Anyone familiar with mind maps will tell you that they are an effective way to help you make notes, think creatively and generate new ideas as well as being ideal for mnemonic (memory-boosting) purposes. For those not familiar with them, they do this by  ensuring that what you put on paper reflects the structure of your brain, using a full range of cortical skills: 'right-brain' skills such as colour, imagery, imagination and 'left-brain' skills such as words, association, number and logic. Using mind maps will help you to think, remember, plan and write more effectively than you do at present, as well as ensuring that you eliminate extraneous information and retain what is vital and important. Our course will show you in a structured way how to create your own mind maps for whatever purpose you wish and help you create your first few in the seminar itself.

If you would like to attend any of these courses, please visit us at our website www.oxfordmind.co.uk/London or emailinfo@oxfordmind.co.uk stating which course or courses you would like to attend.

Please note that there is a charge of £20 per person per course (student price) / £30 per person per course (full price).
