Exploring the interaction between Nutrient-Induced upper Gastrointestinal syMptoms and Activity of the Autonomic Nervous System and psychological symptoms using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ENIGMA ANS): A PhD student feasibility study in healthy participants
I would like to invite you to take part in a research study conducted at Queen Mary University of London to investigate how food affects the autonomic nervous system (ANS) – which controls ‘fight or flight’ reflexes and digestive function. We want to see how a nutrient drink affects appetite-related sensations, heart and breathing rate.
You may be eligible for this study as a healthy volunteer if you are:
· Aged between 18 to 55 years old
· Female
· Body mass index between 19 – 25 kg / m2
You will not be eligible if you:
· Have any gastrointestinal symptoms
· Are pregnant
If you are interested in taking part, contact the person below for more information and a telephone interview (pre-screening) will be scheduled to check your eligibility. If you fit the study criteria, you will be asked to complete a series of questionnaires and attend one visit at the Wingate Institute for Neurogastroenterology in Whitechapel. During the visit, your heart and breathing rate will be recorded in different positions and before and after a nutrient drink. All information that you provide will be anonymised and treated confidentially.
You are under no obligation to reply to this email or take part in the study. If you do choose to take part, participation in this research is voluntary and you may withdraw at any time.
This study has been approved by the Queen Mary Ethics of Research Committee (Ref no: QMERC2018/43).
On completion of the questionnaires you will receive £15 and on completion of the study visit you will be compensated a further £35 for time and travel expenses incurred.
If you would like further information, please email Ms Heather Fitzke (h.e.fitzke@qmul.ac.uk).
