We are looking for an E-Learning Assistant to support School of Medicine & Dentistry (SMD) students' learning about diversity issues in healthcare. The working hours will be around 5 hours per week over 10 months and we are paying £12 per hour plus holiday pay. The estimated start date will be  Monday 26th November 2018.

BRAIDE is a collaborative student-teacher partnership project, working alongside the E-Learning Unit and the Student Welfare Team, to support students’ learning about diversity issues in healthcare and raise staff awareness on diversity issues in the student body. The over-arching aims of this project are to:

  • To create a shared interactive e-learning resource for students and teachers to explore, share, learn and discuss diversity issues in healthcare.

  • To develop a creative, innovative and inclusive e-learning resource that provides students and teachers a centralized platform of multi-media resources for how to effectively respond to diversity issues in healthcare settings and within the QMUL institution.

This is a role for a highly motivated, self-managing individual, who is able to balance the demands of work and study whilst supporting academic and administrative staff by contributing to the effective use of learning technologies across the college to enhance the student experience.

The post-holder may be expected to carry out any of the following duties in support of these goals:

  • Work with the project leads, E-learning unit and the Student Welfare team to complete to complete this project. Further information can be found in the Westfield Funding Application which will be disclosed if at interview stage..  

  • Work with academic and professional services staff to develop e-learning resources.

  • Work with academic, administrative and E-learning unit staff to carry out administrative duties related to the project stated.


  • We are advertising this role until the 16th November 2018, with interviews to shortlisted candidates due to be taking place on the following dates: Wednesday 21st November: 09.00 - 13.00 and Thursday 22nd November : 12.00 - 14.00

Experience / Skills

  • Student in any discipline at Queen Mary University of London with an interest in diversity may apply.

  • GCSE English A*-C or Equivalent

  • GCSE ICT A*-C or Equivalent

  • Some experience of developing online content, e.g. blog or group/personal website.

  • Some experience of writing content for public use.


  • Experience in development and design of teaching resources to create an attractive, user-friendly and accessible learning platform.

  • Experience of creating multimedia resources, such as videos, tutorials, podcasts of interesting debates, student and educator forums etc.

  • Strong IT skills to include use of all MS Office and which may also include: web development skills, e.g. use of html 

  • Some knowledge of Virtual Learning Environments/Content Management

  • Knowledge of developing video content based on situational judgement test scenarios. 

  • Basic research skills to explore different diversity issues to encourage engagement and interaction with the e-learning materials.

  • Able to prioritise workload effectively 

  • Strong written, verbal and numerical skills

  • Good organisational skills, able to plan and manage own time in order to meet deadlines, without compromising academic study commitments

  • Good communication skills, able to work effectively with academic and administrative staff at all levels and with varied experience of technology.

  • Skills in video and image editing and creating animations.
