IoPPN Summer School

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) will be running a one-week Summer School at our Denmark Hill Campus in South London from 8th-12th July 2019. It aims to inspire and enthuse those considering a career in psychiatry, and provide an insight into the innovative, exciting and rewarding fields of clinical and academic psychiatry. Please note the application deadline is 28th March 2019.

Health Volunteering Fayre This Wednesday!

Come along to the Health Volunteer Fair this Wednesday, 1-3pm in the Old Library. Find out more about how to gain experience in health care, with a variety of different charities and student groups which you can get involved in. All roles available will be suitable for busy student timetables and will be great for the community and your CV/portfolio! See who will be at the fair here.

South West Orthopaedic Conference

We are pleased to announce that the South West Orthopaedic Conference is back on the Saturday 9th of February 2019. The conference will run all day in the RILD in RD&E, Exeter and is open to doctors and medical students of all years! This is a national conference, open to anyone from any university or deanery.

Details of the day:
The day features talks from orthopaedic surgeons and a guest speaker, free food & coffee, interactive workshops and the opportunity to network and present posters! It is a fantastic opportunity for those who may have an interest in orthopaedics and an all-round fun day. With certificates being given to all attendees, those presenting posters and those who may win a prize!

Workshops include:
• Suturing
• Tendon repair
• Hip replacement/ arthroplasty
• Fracture fixation
• Plastering
• Trauma meeting/ X-ray workshop
• Joint injection

NB – you may choose preferences for 4 of the above workshops.


Abstract submission details:
Please send in orthopaedic themed abstracts from SSU’s, audits or original research. Abstract submission is limited to 250 words, posters at A2 size.

BSDS Essay Prize

Twice yearly the British Society for Dermatological Surgery (BSDS) sets an essay title on a topic relating to dermatological surgery and offers a prize for the winning essay. For this summer, we have updated the essay submissions to up to 5-minute long video submissions. The title for the video presentation is: 

"What will dermatological surgery look like in 2050?”

 Below is a poster and application form (with conditions of entry) for the Video Presentation Prize. The BSDS Medical Student Video Presentation Prize is open to any individual or team of up to 5 students who has medical student status at the time of application, or who graduates in 2019.

 Closing date for applications is 1st March 2019. The prize for the winning video will be a place on the BSDS Stitch-Up course in September. For further details on how to apply please click here.
