CONNECTING PRACTICE
WHAT IS CONNECTING PRACTICE?
Connecting Practice (CP) is an initiative that was set up by BLSA, academic and clinical staff to support students. We recognise that students are often under a lot of pressure and more recently have had to deal with a lot of uncertainty and change.
Connecting Practice provides a safe and confidential space to discuss the everyday issues that you face both academically and with patients and colleagues on your placements. This is an opportunity to develop your capacity to manage the emotional impact of your work and learn to be more attuned to what might be going on for others and be better able to support them. This is designed to help your professional practice.
We are offering regular ‘e-huddles’ where a small group of students come together with a facilitator to support each other, talk about how things are going, discuss different perspectives on what might be going on and share ways of coping. Everything discussed remains completely confidential within each huddle, unless you specifically say that you would like the issues you discuss to be raised to appropriate services.
We Are Offering:
Sessions for year 1’s focussing on what it’s like starting out at medical school, and providing a space to talk through your hopes and fears.
Sessions for year 5’s focussing on the impact of the clinical work and managing the particular pressures of the academic work and transitions you will be facing.
General sessions for all years where you can support and learn from each other and discuss the issues you face, whether these are academic or on placements.
